Snow in March...again??

We got more snow today! Here is what our pasture looked like about 4pm this afternoon

It is so weird that we have gotten snow two years in a row on March 1-2. Last March 1st it snowed as well. Alaina and I enjoyed it
We were snowed in and Jacob got up about 9pm that night in bad pain. I got up, comforted him, gave him tylenol, helped him get a warm bath and he still was doubled over with pain in his side. My first thought was appendicitis, so being the internet guru I am, I got up and googled appendicitis attack symptoms, and sure enough, he had them all. The snow had now turned to hard ice and there was no way we could get down our driveway to take him to the ER. Instead, we called an ambulance. They finally made it, or so we thought. They got stuck half way up our driveway. They came on in the house to attend to Jacob and agreed with us that it was probably his appendix. Another ambulance had to be called because the first one was not going anywhere. A wrecker had to come and pull that one out. Finally, about 30 minutes later, another ambulance arrived. This one did not even try to get up the driveway. Instead, Todd walked the 1/4 mile down the drive carrying Jacob wrapped in a blanket. He was hurting so bad..poor thing. I rode in the ambulance with him. The hospital is only about 5 miles away but we had to go so slow to avoid sliding all over the road. In the mean time, Todd stayed at home with the 3 other kids and got a call that his grandmother had just passed away. What a night!!!! We got to the hospital and found out Jacob needed surgery to have his appendix out. He had the surgery the next day on March 2, 2009. He did great! He spent two nights in the hospital and bounced right back, but last March 1-2 will never be forgotten.

Great Weekend

We had such an awesome weekend! Friday was Alaina's 2nd birthday! WOW time is flying by! Seems like only yesterday she was just a newborn. Here is our big girl now

She had a fun party in the SNOW at McDonald's! It starting snowing Friday afternoon and we almost cancelled but most of our family said they would still come, so we went ahead! It was a beautiful snow fall and the most we have gotten in several years. Here is what we woke up to Saturday morning

It was just beautiful! We had been planning all week to go snow tubing in Hendersonville, NC about an hour and 1/2 away so we went ahead and went saturday afternoon! Oh what fun we had!! The drive up the mountain with the snow covered mountains was breath taking! We loved the snow tubing!

So much fun! We ate at Bennion's Steak House which Todd had been wanting to go to forever! It was anice Valentine Dinner with all 5 of my loves! and then we spent the night in a hotel and woke up Valentine's Morning in the mountains. A nice little getaway! A much needed get a way! Yesterday the kids were off school and enjoyed a day of being lazy, but Aaron and Jacob are sick! I hoped that the rest yesterday would make them better, but they are both home from school today and are headed to the dr. I hope they don't give it to the rest of us! On a brighter note..my foot is slowly getting better and I am up to 3 miles on it. I hope to increase that next week. We have our first group run as a team through Team in Training Saturday..looking forward to that! Everyone have an awesome Tuesday!!

Well, our big snow event has turned into a mostly ICE event. uugh! We did get about an inch of snow last night that the kids enjoyed being out in. Here is Alaina enjoying it

but then sleet fell on top of that and made for an icy mess this morning. I took the opportunity to get everyone to help me clean, which the boys were none to excited about. I heard many cries of "it's Saturday" "we aren't suppose to have to clean on the weekend". But, it is done now and the house looks a little more presentable. I have taco soup cooking in the crock pot and have yet to get out of my pajamas. Life is Good! I am going to put Alaina down for a nap and then work on some work online. My foot is looking better today! Hoping to get back in the gym by next weekend! Enjoy your Saturday!

New Blog

Hi guys! I am moving my blog to this new URL so hope you will join me here. It has been a crazy week. On Monday, I knew the temps were gonna drop so I wanted to put the blanket back on my horse. I had gone to do some shopping and did not get back till dark. Todd was at school, so I got the blanket, went down to the pasture and attempted to throw it over her back. She was a little scared and unsure cause she could not see what I was doing. I was talking her through it, and had the blanket on her back and was starting to strap it when Wade came up on us with a flashlight. That spooked her and she startled and then started to run off. Well....I had done something stupid and went down with only flip flops on my feet. I knew better...you should never be around a horse with anything but boots or some kind of shoe to protect your feet, but I was in a hurry. It was cold and I just wanted to do it and get back in the house. When she ran, she stepped on my right foot. OUCH did it hurt. I fell backwards with the pain. I could not walk on it, and Wade had to help me back to the house. Once i got in, the top of my foot had swelled and turned blue but was numb. I thought it was probably just bruised. I called my mom, who is a nurse and texted her a picture and she came over and brought me some things to help. She wanted me to go to the ER, but i said i would wait. I did not sleep well and so decided I would get it Xrayed on Tuesday morning. Turns out, I did have a stress fracture. So, this week has been challenging hobbling around, and it really swells, especially at night. I have tried to stay off it, but with 4 kids that is not easily attainable. Here is what it looked like last night..day 4 Keep in mind, my foot is usually not this fat! lol

The worse part is that I had just signed up last Saturday with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training to do a marathon in June, and had started my training on Monday. I was so proud that I had done 4 miles that day, and was planning to get in 20 all together this week. Training has come to a halt. I sure hope I am healed and ready to get back on board with that in a few weeks, but in the mean time, I am focusing on the fundraising part, so PLEASE check out check out my marathon fundraising page http://pages.teamintraining.org/sc/rnr10/sbrooksp6w and donate what you can! You will see why I am doing this and what inspired me on there as well!
The weather man says snow for tonight, so we will see! It would be nice to have some, as long as it does not stick around and keep us house bound more than the weekend. I hate being stuck inside! Have a great weekend everyone!
